OPWJS Law and Legal with CK Hoffler, Juandolyn and the Super Lawyers discuss the crisis at the Del Rio, Texas border. The Panel shares that the U.S. is denying Haitians the opportunity to apply for asylum.
The Group says the CDC says there is no legal rationale under Section 255 of the U.S. Code to deny their entry. They continue with saying this is bad public policy and will have a bad public health outcome. The Biden Administration received negative flack over leaving Afghanistan, and they are trying not to give Haitian's the impression that the U.S. is open.
The Super Lawyers say the U.S. has a long history of denying Haitians entry into U.S. starting from the 80s and 90s. The panel says the mistreatment of Black Haitians is not a good look for the country and neither is sending Haitians back to a country in ruins. They discuss that Biden Administration is following the same practices of removing immigrants as Trump Administration did.
