A candid and informative conversation about women’s health took center stage on "Let’s Talk About It with the Turners", as naturopathic doctor Camilla Dixon addressed perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause through a holistic and educational lens aimed at empowering women with knowledge and options.

Dr. Dixon shared her personal experience navigating hormonal changes, explaining that her journey began earlier than expected. She said she entered perimenopause in her early 30s and menopause in her mid-40s, a process she described as physically and emotionally challenging. Dr. Dixon noted that symptoms such as weight gain, mood changes, fatigue and mental fog prompted her to seek deeper understanding rather than dismissing the experience as a normal part of aging.

Her search for answers led her to holistic and herbal approaches, influenced by a background rooted in natural wellness. Dr. Dixon emphasized that many women experience nutritional deficiencies during these stages, often without realizing the long-term impact on bone health, brain function and cardiovascular wellness.

She encouraged women in perimenopause to begin nourishing their bodies early through balanced nutrition, movement and boundary-setting. Dr. Dixon stressed the importance of minerals, vitamins and lifestyle changes, explaining that failing to supply the body with what it needs can worsen symptoms over time.

From a holistic perspective, Dr. Dixon described menopause as a physiological shift in how the body circulates and responds internally, often leading to increased concerns with heart health, blood pressure, cholesterol and cognitive function. She framed menopause not as an ending, but as a transition requiring intentional care and awareness.

Menopause is a beautiful thing,” Dr. Dixon said.

Exercise was highlighted as a critical component throughout all stages. Dr. Dixon shared the importance of movement, whether walking, strength training, yoga, or tai chi, which support circulation, bone density, and brain health. She described stagnation as harmful to the body.

Dr. Dixon also discussed her work developing customized herbal formulas designed to support women through hormonal transitions. She explained that her approach begins with conversation and assessment rather than one-size-fits-all solutions. Dr. Dixon identifies five different menopausal types, fire, water, wood, metal, and earth, each associated with different organ systems and symptom patterns.

Before creating any formula, Dr. Dixon said she evaluates factors such as thyroid health, stress levels and dominant symptoms. Her remedies consist solely of herbs, tailored to address specific needs while avoiding overburdening the body. Each formula is designed to gently support healing, restore balance and replenish deficiencies.

We were created to move,” Dr. Dixon said.
