Two preseason games in the books, one to go for the Atlanta Falcons, and still several starting roles to be decided upon for Head Coach Arthur Smith and his staff.
Most fans, and Falcons insiders are paying the most attention to the battle under center for the Dirty Birds, with most assuming that veteran Marcus Mariota will eventually be named the official week one starter. However, rookie signal caller Desmond Ridder has played well so far in the preseason and has many wondering if Head Coach Arthur Smith could shock us all and name the third round draft pick his guy.
Regardless of what quarterback ultimately takes the first snap of the regular season on September 11 vs New Orleans, one question that also must be answered for the Falcons, is who will be doing the snapping as the first team center?
Matt Hennessy and Drew Dalman have been in an intense battle throughout training camp to be named the signal caller of the offensive line, and so far AtlantaFalcons.com writer Tori McElhaney feels the battle has been pretty even.
“This is a competition that is going to go all the way to week one” explained Tori when she joined The Jon Chuckery Show on 92.9 the Game earlier this week.
Tori went onto elaborate, “They are so neck and neck and so close that I haven’t seen either of them pull away with the job.”
The Falcons have one more preseason game left when they welcome the Jacksonville Jaguars into Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday August 27 at 3 pm.
Maybe Arthur Smith will tip his decision by who he gives the start to in the final tune up before the regular season opener.
