Commanders adding QB Marcus Mariota on 1-year deal

The former Falcons passer has found a new home.

And the Commanders have their veteran QB to mentor whomever is the No. 2 overall pick.

Per Adam Schefter, the Commanders are adding former Eagles QB Marcus Mariota on a one-year deal ‘with a base value of $6 million and upside to $10 million.’


Mariota, 30, was the No. 2 overall pick by the Titans in 2015, but after five years there, has mostly been a backup in his last four seasons with the Raiders, Falcons, and Eagles – and Washington will be his fourth team in four seasons.

The Oregon product was last a starter in Atlanta in 2022, where he played 13 games and had a 61.3 compltion percentage, 2219 yards, and 15 touchdowns to nine interceptions – but he left the team after 13 weeks, when Atlanta was 5-8 and he was benched for Desmond Ridder, and he ultimately underwent knee surgery.
