Earlier today The Morning Shift was talking about what foundational pieces the Atlanta Falcons are still missing, what foundational and core pieces the Falcons need on offense specifically, what other positions the Falcons’ offense needs to add to their foundation and core, and explained why they think the Falcons must re-solidify themselves at offensive tackle in the 2027 NFL Draft.

“His [Jake Matthews] career is coming to a close whether we like it or not, and I mentioned the other day that I thought he really needed to have a good year in the run game if this team was gonna find success. You flip that, and Kaleb McGary retiring, Elijah Wilkinson leaving, Jawaan Taylor on a one-year deal, and we still haven’t seen much of the Storm Norton stuff, whatever is going on with him. You need an offensive tackle, you do, you need one at some point, and I think that would be if I had to guess right now that’d be a position they’d be looking at very early in the draft next year.”

If Michael Penix Jr. or maybe even Tua Tagovailoa end up panning out and giving the Falcons some stability at the quarterback position, then it would definitely make sense for the Falcons to use their 2027 first round pick on the best available offensive tackle.
