With former Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins hitting the open market this week, the discussion has begun about whether or not adding the five-time All-Pro to the Falcons roster would be a possibility.
Joe Patrick, Falcons insider for 92.9 The Game, joined John Fricke on Sunday afternoon and was asked about the potential signing of Hopkins. While John doesn’t think that the Falcons even have a chance at courting the 30-year-old Pro-Bowler, Joe wouldn’t entirely close the door on the franchise keeping their eyes open for another wide receiver once they become available.
“I think that’s a position that the Falcons are definitely going to keep an ear to the ground on, in terms of just keeping an eye on what’s out there and what can help them because I do think they could use another body.” Patrick stated.
With the signings of Mack Hollins and Scotty Miller this off-season, in addition to Drake London and the option of Cordarrelle Patterson, Kyle Pitts and the pass catchers out of the backfield, the Falcons seem to have pretty good depth when it comes to splitting guys out wide. Joe doesn’t expect the Falcons to make a big splash with a signing but does imagine the team adding another piece and even has a specific name in mind.
“The name that’s really been floating around, that’s been really hot, is Corey Davis from the Jets. Obviously he has experience working with Arthur Smith in the past in Tennessee and it probably is very likely. He’s on a big contract that the Jets can save some money by cutting him later in camp so that would still be the name for me that I’m looking out for.”
