Falcons look to add draft picks, but how will they make it happen?

As the Atlanta Falcons continue preparing for the 2026 NFL season and the NFL draft, which is approaching, as it will take place on April 23, how they plan to utilize their five draft picks to bolster their roster continues to be the conversation surrounding the franchise, and likely even more so following the unexpected retirement announcement by offensive lineman, Kaleb McGary on Wednesday.

On Friday, 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes and Mike Bell were joined by ESPN’s Marc Raimondi to discuss the Falcons current draft status as they do not have a first-round pick and new general manager, Ian Cunningham has stated the franchise is looking into ways to potentially acquire more draft assets for the upcoming draft, to which Raimondi shared his thoughts on if the Falcons would consider trading players like Jessie Bates III to add more picks.

“It really depends on what the compensation will be,” Raimondi said in the case of Bates being expendable should Atlanta consider trade offers for the Pro Bowl safety, however explained why moving on from Bates III could leave Atlanta in a position in which his replacement may not be as productive as the Falcons’ safety.

“You’re not going to get that quality of production from whoever is on the roster right now, but do they see a guy they like in the draft and take a safety in the first couple of rounds,” Raimondi said, explaining he believes there isn’t anything “off the table” in regards to what direction Atlanta would go to add the desired personnel and draft assets. “It’s a new regime, it’s a new outlook, it’s a new mindset, it’s a new ‘vision’ and that’s kind of what it is,” Raimondi said.
