Curtis Symonds, President of Byron Allen’s HBCU GO joined On Point with Juandolyn Stokes to share the news that Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) can have their voices heard loud and clear on a new platform.
HBCU GO is a new free streaming platform and the leading media provider for the nation’s 107 HBCUs. This platform embraces and represents the voice of Black Excellence by offering sports fans full access to HBCU sporting events.
According to Symonds who developed the idea for HBCU GO twelve years ago, their first order of business is to secure access to the four HBCU football conferences, CIAC, MEAC, SWAC, and SIAC.
Presently, they have tapped almost half of all the HBCU schools.
“It’s a slow crawl,” said Symonds.
The goal is for each school to have their own channel through audio and video, which will also include an education page to present more information about the school and allow potential employers to offer students internships and job opportunities.
This platform is unique because it will also offer a peek inside of the HBCU lifestyle, including the rich history, culture, and perspectives of those living the experience.
“HBCU GO was designed to help people get a better feel of why it's important to go to an HBCU,” said Symonds; he is a graduate of Central State University.
History, legacy, and bonding are all parts of the HBCU experience.
