Marshall EDGE rusher Mike Green stole the headlines at Senior Bowl practices this week, with some punishing reps that swirled around social media. The Steakhouse discussed the tantalizing prospect, but also why we shouldn't just fall in love with the stats of players from smaller schools.
"Where do you stand on the players who come out of the smaller schools?" Sandra asked Steak. "I'm bringing up Marshall and I'm bringing up Mike Green, who has won the crown of 'Mr. Senior Bowl' because he had 17.0 sacks at Marshall. He started at Virginia [before finishing] at Marshall. It just scares me."
The Falcons are in desperate need of pass-rush support and fans have started to fall in love with the Sun Belt Player of the Year after his huge week.
"I think Falcon fans probably feel burned by hearing about smaller schools under the Thomas Dimitroff era and the Terry Fontenot era when it felt like we were trying to be cute," Steak answered her. "As opposed to saying, 'Oh, he played at Alabama? Sold. He played at Georgia? Sold. Played at Clemson at the height of Dabo?'"
Should the size of the school you play for be a negative?
Looking at his resume from his standout junior season, it's not like he stacked his numbers against the bad teams. Against Virginia Tech, Ohio State, and in the Sun Belt Conference Championship game, Green accounted for 4.5 sacks and 12 tackles. In all competitions, he had just three games all season in which he didn't register a sack.
But Sandra is not sold. She said, "As a Falcon fan... I would rather you look up the road or elsewhere in the SEC, I'll give you five schools to pick from."
