Earlier today Atlanta Falcons beat writer and reporter for The Athletic Josh Kendall joined The Morning Shift and explained why he thinks Falcons quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's early struggles are “accelerating” quarterback Michael Penix Jr.’s timeline to becoming the Falcons starting quarterback.
“The fact that Tua [Tagovailoa] has not taken the reins and has not taken advantage of this time that he’s got on the field by any stretch just accelerates that timeline and maybe almost frankly makes it an easier switch, makes it an easier transition for the Falcons. If Tua was out here lighting the world on fire and this team started the season pretty hot then that becomes a tough switch to make at this point I don’t think it is” Kendall said
Penix Jr. should be very close to being fully cleared, which would allow him to participate in full 11 on 11 team work and play in the preseason, so if Tua continues to struggle and not separate himself in this quarterback competition the Falcons starting quarterback job, that seemed like it was Tagovailoa’s to lose, could end up being won by Michael Penix Jr.
