In the wake of Sunday night’s firings of Raheem Morris and Terry Fontenot, the Falcons have been linked to the creation of a President of Football Operations role, a position that would oversee the hiring of both a general manager and a head coach. Former quarterback Matt Ryan has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the job. But if John Harbaugh, newly available after his departure from Baltimore, were to emerge as a serious option for Atlanta’s head-coaching vacancy, the Falcons may need to reconsider that structure, as Harbaugh could seek a more traditional balance of authority.
