'I'm Bounty Hunting This Individual': Activist Andrew Holmes Offers $1K Reward For Information About People Involved In Gold Coast Mugging

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A $1,000 reward is being offered for information about the individuals involved in a mugging incident in a Gold Coast parking garage that put an 85-year-old woman in the hospital.

Activist Andrew Holmes, who’s offering the reward, said it breaks his heart to see the video captured by a surveillance camera.

"Yeah, I'm bounty hunting this individual, because someone knows, when they see this video and they see his picture, they know who this individual is," he said.

The video shows the elderly woman walking with a cane into a parking garage at Grand and Michigan avenues and a man following behind, grabbing her purse that was across her chest and pulling her violently backwards, her head slamming into the concrete.

The attack happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of East Grand Avenue. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said.

"When you see a senior like that the first thing that comes to your mind, you think about your own mother, your own grandmother," Holmes said.

He said anyone who would do that to a frail, old woman would probably do the same to their own mother.

According to CBS 2, who obtained the surveillance video, the video shows the robber dropped the purse while running away. He quickly circled back to get what he stole, and despite seeing the woman lying motionless, he left her alone.

The woman was expected to recover.

It is believed that the man was with two other people. Police released a photo of the suspect Thursday wearing a red hat, gray and black shirt, and white shoes.

Police have been checking other surveillance camera images in an effort to get a better picture of their faces.

Holmes said anyone with information should call 1-800-U-TELL-US or call Area Three detectives at 312-744-8263.
