CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two brothers who used to live in the Chicago-area have been confirmed dead following a volcano eruption in New Zealand and crews are still searching for their parents.
Officials in New Zealand said 13-year-old Matthew Hollander and 16-year-old Ben Hollander died after being taken to a hospital.
Their father Martin was described as "an amazing human being" by Bridget Daehler. She said her ex-husband started an investment firm, Smart Asset Management, with Martin Hollander in the late 90's in Lake Zurich.
She said Hollander was "a very loyal, hard-working, honest guy."
Daehler said Barbara Hollander graduated from Niles West.
"They were just this really adorable family. Such nice, giving, loving people." she said. "It's very tragic."
