CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two Chicago firefighters were injured Sunday night in East Garfield Park after falling through a hole while working to put out an apartment building fire.
The firefighters were responding to an apartment fire around 9 p.m. near Albany and Monroe, when they fell two stories through a hole, from the third floor to the first floor.

— Chicago Fire Media (@CFDMedia) April 1, 2019First Deputy Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt told CBS 2, "the third and second floors of the structure were vacant and the first floor was occupied at the time.
She said there were no smoke detectors in the building.
Nance-Holt said one of the injured firefighters got out of the building on his own, while the other was helped out by other firefighters.
CFD said the firefighters were taken to Stroger Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
According to CBS 2, the building failed an inspection in January.
More than 100 firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the fire. The Chicago Fire Department said the fire spread to a neighboring building before it was put out.
