CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago City Council member from the area around the planned Barack Obama Presidential Center says she and her constituents are being ignored on the issue of affordable housing.

Twentieth Ward Ald. Jeanette Taylor says she, her council colleague Leslie Hairston and others have been talking with the Lightfoot Administration. They want a Community Benefits Agreement that protects low-income residents from being forced out of the neighborhood as real-estate values rise.

Now, Taylor said, the mayor appears ready with her own plan, and it may not be acceptable.

“Make sure you write this down,” the alderwoman told reporters Wednesday. “We are organized.”She said she and Chicago Housing Commissioner Marisa Novara are not even close to an agreement. The Lightfoot Administration insists it is listening to the community.

Officials indicate it’s a work in progress.
