SPRINGFIELD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After more than 1,000 hours and sleepless nights, a new art exhibit opened May 10 at the Abraham Lincoln Museum.
In partership with the Springfield Model Railroad Association, the exhibit shows the rebirth of President Lincoln’s dream of a transcontinental railroad and working scale models depict advancements in United States railroad technology. The display shows the impact of railways throughout America’s history and the progress of the rail system from then to now.
The exhibit is celebrating the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's The Golden Spike and opened on the first floor of Union Station.
Tom Oza, project manager of the museum, said the library approached the museum to create the exhibit and put together a hard-working team to make it a reality. He said the team began working in November and now can see their hard work on display.
"At least a 1,000 hours later and a lot of sleepless nights, we got the layout down the way it is and it's working pretty good," Oza said.
The exhibit is free with museum admission and is open until the end of the year.
