American Academy of Pediatrics Calls On Parent Gun Owners To Make Sure Gun Storage Is Safe For Children

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Before your child goes to a friend's house to play, the Itasca-based American Academy of Pediatrics urges you to ask about guns.

Dr. Alison Tothy of Comer Children's Hospital and the American Academy of Pediatrics says before you send a child to play at someone's house, check if there is an unlocked gun.

Tothy said if those parents say "yes," you should keep your children away from that house and invite the children at that house to play at yours.

Tothy said the idea is to get parents who are gun owners to think about storing guns safely, which she added means locking them unloaded and keeping ammunition stored separately and also securely.
