(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The head of the Aurora police union says the organization is open to reforms, such as a civilian oversight board and body cameras for officers.
The Aurora police contract expired at the end of last year, but COVID-19 delayed negotiations for a new contract.
Police Union President Lee Catavu said Tuesday they’d like to get back to the bargaining table as soon as possible to get a new contract for the 245 officers.
Aurora is Illinois’ second largest city.
“I think morale here is similar to a lot of police departments around the country. I think some of the rhetoric and vitriol has taken its toll,” Catavu said.
But he adds the Association of Professional Police Officers is open to “anything that would improve the relationship between the police department and the community,” including body cams and a civilian oversight board.
