CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- As the Chicago Teachers Union and CPS continue to negotiate ahead of Thursday's strike date, many parents are making contingency plans.
The Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club in North Center will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. if the teachers walk out, said Director of Operations Bonnie Werstein.
There are 150 kids already signed up and the club can accommodate more.
Werstein said they plan to bring in student teachers from ISU to join their after school program staff, as well as youth leaders made up of high school, college, and middle school students.
The club offers educational and play opportunities for the kids at its space on Irving Park Road near Western Avenue.
Mayor Lightfoot said school buildings will be open during any strike and staffed by administrators.
Werstein said they've been open during days off for the Polar Vortez and during the 2012 teacher strike.
