ROCKDALE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – An old bridge that crosses the Des Plaines River near Joliet will reopen eventually, after emergency repairs, Illinois transportation officials said Monday.
The Illinois Department of Transportation statement comes in response to a statement offered earlier by state police that suggested the Brandon Road Bridge will never reopen.
“The evaluation of the necessary repairs is ongoing. A more definitive timeline for when the bridge can reopen will be announced later,” IDOT said in a news release.
A mechanical component of the bridge failed over the weekend, the release said. It is in Rockdale.
During the closure, motorists will have to use alternative routes to get across the Des Plaines River. Signs will be post, IDOT said.
