CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- There’s a bright spot to report during the coronavirus pandemic in Chicago. For now, at least, the city said it has no adoptable dogs left.
Chicago Animal Care and Control's "Adoptable Pets" Facebook page reports that there are no dogs currently available for adoption.
CACC said it never before typed those words.
The last two adoptable dogs the city had, Penn and Alley, were adopted Sunday.
That does not mean Chicago Animal Care and Control does not have any dogs - it does, but they are not yet ready to be adopted. Due to COVID-19 restrictions from the city, the shelter is not able to perform spay/neuter surgeries before dogs can be adopted from the shelter.
"If you want to help dogs currently at CACC, you'll need to apply with a rescue partner and be approved to foster/adopt through them. If you’re interested of working with a rescue partner, let us know where you’re located and we can recommend some rescues to apply through. Please do not apply though if you're only interested/able to foster while the shelter-in-place order is active. Dogs can stay in foster homes for months sometimes and it puts a huge burden on rescue partners to find new fosters when people can no longer commit," the shelter wrote on Facebook.
