(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Ric Ocasek, former frontman for The Cars, has died at age 75, reports said Sunday.
Ocasek, the gaunt lead singer and one of the songwriters for the rock band that peaked in the 1980s, was pronounced dead Sunday after police received a call for an unconscious male in an East 19th Street townhouse, NBC New York reported. The musician appeared to have died from natural causes, Page Six reported.
Music websites Rolling Stone and Pitchfork also reported on the death.
The Cars, a New Wave band that featured synthesizers, electric guitars and power pop harmonies, formed in the late 1970s. Their several hits included "You Might Think," "Just What I Needed" and "Good Times Roll."
Ocasek, who was also a successful music producer, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
