CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Murder charges have been dropped by Cook County prosecutors against a man accused of killing four people at a South Shore restaurant three years ago.
Maurice Harris, 22, could be released from jail, where he’s been held without bond for three years. He had been accused of fatally shooting four people at Nadia Fish and Chicken at 75th and Coles on March 30, 2017.
Police had said Harris’ motive was to avenge his father’s death by gunfire, which occurred the day before.
On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said the eyewitness accounts from the restaurant were unreliable.
The victims were Emmanuel C. Stokes, 28, and Edwin Davis, 32, who were fatally shot inside the restaurant; and 19-year-old Raheem Jackson and his 20-year-old brother, Dillon Jackson, who fled the restaurant and died outside.
