CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The weather is brutal, yes, but how would you like to run 13.1 miles in it?

That's what some dedicated -- or perhaps, crazy -- people are doing on Saturday morning along Chicago's lakefront.

About 3,000 people are registered to run in the F3 Half Marathon, which has been taking place for about 10 years and has been growing every year.

Erin Vandenberg is one of the race organizers and tells WBBM that participants "clearly want to test themselves.” For everyone on social media who say it's nuts, there are even more who say they want to do it, she said.

Vandenburg said runners are at least moving. It’s the volunteers who have the tough job. They will have warming vans at every aid station.

Finishers get a medal and a cup of hot chocolate.

Me 3 months ago: I can totally run a half marathon in Chicago in January. I mean, how bad could the weather even be? I’m going to sign up for #f3 immediately!Me, today, the morning of the half marathon: oh f.... pic.twitter.com/p7GIOxPnkL

As I prepare to run a freaking half marathon in frozen temps here in Chicago, flashback to when I went hiking in -12 temps in Siberia: https://t.co/Ne6Cp9beUW
