CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago City Council member says she was “horrified and upset” to learn from police they had to break up a wedding party in her ward Thursday afternoon.

Chicago Police say the event that broke social-distancing requirements was in the 6800 block of North Francisco. Officers responded to a call of a “public safety concern” when a large group of people gathered in a backyard and garage area.

Ald. Debra Silverstein, 50th Ward, says she heard about the large gathering from police.

"I was absolutely horrified and very upset about it. We have been doing a lot of outreach to people, explaining to them the importance of social distancing, and to me, this was extremely upsetting.”

Silverstein also vented on Facebook, where someone commented that the wedding celebration started small but grew as uninvited guests showed up.

Police say they made no arrests and issued no citations.
