(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police say one man is most likely responsible for sexually assaulting five women in a string of attacks on the South Side this summer.

Four attacks on women since July 12 have occurred near what police call the 75th Street Corridor and have been centered around the Chatham and Park Manor neighborhoods.

In the most recent incident, last Friday, police said two women were attacked.

Chicago Police Sgt. Arleseuia Watson said in the other three incidents, the victims were women walking alone.

"I would advise young women to stay in the company of others and be mindful of their surroundings. Try not to be walking and looking at your cell phones and not paying attention to what's going on around you,” she said.

The attacker used a knife in the first attack and a handgun in the last three attacks, police said. In each circumstance, the man engaged the women in conversation to lure them to a secluded area before sexually assaulting them.

Police Lt. Ozzie Valdez said the man stole the women's cell phones and money. In at least one of the incidents, the man was wearing a mask.

And Valdez says in one assault, the victim says the man wore a Bulls hat.
