(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One next-door state has been removed from Chicago’s emergency travel order and another has been added.
Wisconsin, Illinois’ neighbor to the north, has been taken off the list of states that are considered COVID “hot spots.” Travelers or Chicagoans coming from there will no longer need to self-quarantine for two weeks. Also removed: Nebraska.
But Iowa and Kansas, which were removed a week ago, are back on the Chicago list, which is updated every Tuesday.
Chicago Public Health Commissioner Allison Arwady said the city is seeing 300 new COVID cases per day, on average. That’s still an improvement over the 1,000 per day level seen in early May.
The rate is still too high, she said, for Chicago to consider allowing residents to consider seating groups larger than six people.
Chicago health officials say the biggest virus spread right now is largely among family members, especially in the LatinX community. The hotspots are on the Northwest, Southwest and Southeast sides.
Also Tuesday, Illinois state health officials reported 1,740 new cases coronavirus and 27 additional deaths from the disease.
The state’s total count of coronavirus cases to date stands at 209,594 -- with 7,782 deaths, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The state’s rolling positivity rate has inched up to 4.3%.
