CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The head of Chicago's Department of Public Health is expecting more cases of coronavirus, and she says the city is preparing to close schools if that's needed at some point.
Large Chicago-based conventions like the housewares show have cancelled. Part of the reason: concern over a group gathering in the age of coronavirus.
Right now, Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady says there's no move to shut down schools.
"It is possible that at some point in the future -- not tomorrow, not next week, if we needed to be thinking about potentially not having some schools open in a short-term kind of way -- that would be something we might consider doing,” she said.
The Chicago Fire Department says paramedics have responded to nine calls so far in which the caller thought they might have coronavirus.
The department says all turned out negative.
