CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One of the giant's of Chicago's recreational leagues — the Chicago Sport and Social Club — is having a tough time during the shutdown.

Traditional sports are at a standstill. There are still video games and trivia events online.

Normally, the Chicago Sport and Social Club's summer season would be getting started now. It's a season that sees about 35,000 people involved in sports like beach volleyball and softball.

Club President Chris Hastings is not ready to cancel everything for the rest of the year.

"No, not quite ready to do that and hope we don't have to," he said Thursday. "If we miss the summer, then of course, that would be tough. But come September or October, if that's when we can get back playing again, that's when we'd be ready to start."

Hastings says the Sport and Social Club has had to furlough 14 employees.
