CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago's first COVID-19 antibody testing site opened to the public Wednesday in Lincoln Park.

Innovative Express Care, located at at 2400 N. Ashland Avenue, began testing people at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Tests are available to anyone that is feeling well and has not had any symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

The COVID-19 antibody test is done by blood draw. A COVID-19 antibody blood test looks for IgG antibodies in the blood to determine if your body has already responded to the virus. People can receive their test results in two to five days.

According to Innovative Express Care, in research studies, the test demonstrated an 80 percent rate of accuracy in patients who had experienced COVID-19 within 10 days of being tested. The level of accuracy improved, up to 100 percent, as the time from virus infection increased.

These tests and their results could play an important role in the decision to end the stay-at-home order.

Those interested in getting the antibody test or getting tested for COVID-19 will need to make an appointment. You can schedule a COVID-19 antibody test online. Patients arriving at Innovative Express Care for an antibody test will first be evaluated at the Innovative Express Care outdoor medical tent. If you are symptomatic, or have been symptomatic in the last 14 days, we will do a COVID-19 swab instead, to check for the active virus. If you have not had any symptoms for 14 days, we will do the antibody test. Insurance is accepted for the test and evaluation. The self-pay price is $250 for antibody (serology) testing.
