CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- November 1st is when the first tenants move into Chicago’s Old Post Office, the one that's bisected by the Eisenhower Expressway.
Monday, leasing agents were showing off some of the space.
There's 2.3 million square feet of it at the building, which dates back to the 1920s.
Stephen Smith, executive vice president for the Telos Group, the leasing agency, said they found some interesting things in the building.
He remembers one meeting with real estate brokers: “The JLL project manager walked in with an old gun that they found on a mechanical unit. So, I'm sure there's some unsolved crime back in the '20s or '30s."
"We're standing in the historic lobby, which is just off Van Buren. It's been brought back to how it used to be. With all of the grandeur and glory that a space like this can have, with the massive tall ceilings and the marble running up the walls,” she said.
WBBM: What are we looking at?
"We're (now) standing on the second floor, which is the amenity level, which is tenant exclusive. We're currently in the main lounge area. You're able to see from here the bocce ball court. You're able to see the fireplace, right next to the large windows.
"We are standing over where the highway runs underneath. So pedestrians up here on the second level will be able to walk from the bar area back down to the back elevator bays."
WBBM: Can't hear anything.
"You can't hear anything."
Meaning, there is no road noise from the Eisenhower. Planned for the roof is a 3.5-acre to 4-acre park.
