(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Bartenders in Illinois would be able to create and sell mixed drinks to go, if supporters of the idea can convince Gov. JB Pritzker.
Ian Beacraft is one of the people behind "Cocktails for Hope," an initiative that has gathered thousands of signatures on a petition. It seeks to convince Pritzker to allow mixed drinks to go during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Beacraft says it could help some bars and restaurants survive the COVID-19 restrictions that have greatly affected their bottom lines.
The state has allowed package-liquor sales, which has helped some establishments, he says, but for others it's not enough to stay afloat.
He said he's had promising conversations with the Illinois Liquor Control Commission and several state lawmakers. Their support could help push the idea allowing the sale of mixed drinks for pickup or delivery.
