CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The COVID-19 pandemic could revive a long lost way of going to the movies.

The closed Cascade Drive-In movie theater in West Chicago could be on the verge of a comeback.

Owner Jeff Kohlberg told the Daily Herald that he is talking about the possibility of reopening with the new owners of the property along North Avenue.

"We have been working on it with many people," he said. "I think it is looking good."

But he warns it could take awhile, as the drive-in movie theater supply chain is not what it once was.

Kohlberg said there is only one company that makes in-car speakers and film distributors may not have a product ready to show before July 1.

He said drive-in movie theaters could be popular, once the stay-at-home restrictions are lifted, because "you can't find a safer place than your own car."
