CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago police want residents to register their bikes.

CPD's 20th District on the 5400 block of North Lincoln sent out a humorous, yet serious tweet Sunday afternoon, asking "Is your bicycle registered with the City of Chicago? Did you silently say or think the words 'Why no, it is not registered with the City of Chicago?' Then please...get it registered."

The tweet also provided a link to online registration.  Police said registration can help officers recover a bike if it is lost or stolen.

Users of the older registration database will need to re-register as a new user with the new system. You will not need to re-enter old registrations. For more information click on Bike Registration FAQ.
