(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The CTA is suspending train and bus service until Tuesday morning, the transit agency announced.

Service was to end at 9:30 p.m. Monday and won't resume until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

CTA officials said the move came "at the request of public safety officials" -- an apparent reference to the social unrest that rocked Chicago over the weekend.

[Special Note> At request of public safety officials, service suspended on all rail lines and bus routes, eff. 9:30 pm. Services will remain suspended until 6 am Tue.

Once trains and buses resume service at 6 a.m., they will continue to not service stops in or near the downtown area, CTA said. Transit service may be subject to disruptions depending on public activity.
