(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A judge is expected to decide next month whether attorneys for Marni Yang can proceed with their petition for a new trial.
Yang is in prison for the 2007 murder of Rhoni Reuter, a woman Yang believed was a rival for the affections of former Chicago Bear Shaun Gayle.
Now a longtime friend of Reuter says she is convinced Yang is innocent in Reuter's shooting death.
During Yang’s trial, Michelle Ammentorp said she had questions and wondered if Yang was really guilty of shooting and killing Reuter.
"I had doubts, but Marni confessed."
Then, she said at a news conference Tuesday, Yang's defense team convinced her.
"I have absolutely no doubt in my mind."
A judge is expected to decide next month whether Yang's lawyers can proceed with their motion for a new trial.
