Despite Smollett Case, Emanuel Still Thinks State Attorney Foxx Should Keep Her Job

Mayor Emanuel is still exasperated with how the Jussie Smollett case was handled, but stopped short of saying he'd sue the actor to recoup costs spend on his case.

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Despite her dropping the charges against  “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett, Mayor Emanuel is insisting that Cook County States Attorney Kim Foxx should keep her job.Mayor Emanuel sharply criticized State Attorney Kim Foxx for dropping the false hate crime report case against Jussie Smollett, and said he wanted answers. But, after helping REI open a new store along the Chicago River’s North Branch, he was asked if he agrees with the City’s Police Union and Suburban Police Chiefs who are calling on Foxx to quit. He answered no. The mayor maintained that the fault really lies with Smollett, not Foxx.Lawyers for Smollett said he will not pay the City the restitution it’s demanding for investigating his report of a hate crime police now say was a hoax. The laywers also rebuttled by saying they want Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Police Superindendent Eddie Johnson to testify, which the lawyers.

 

A spokesperson for the law department declined to comment if Emanuel or Johnson will appear but said the department will pursue the matter in court.The City’s Law Department is filing a civil complaint about Smollett’s allegedly fraudulent police report after the Actor refused to pay the 130-thousand dollar restitution the Administration demanded.
