(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — DuPage County is reporting a major jump in vote-by-mail applications.
County Clerk Jean Kaczmarek said more than 100,000 residents are choosing to vote by mail for the November presidential election. By comparison, just over 32,000 vote-by-mail ballots were requested in 2016, she said.
“We’re handling more than three times the number of applications we did then.”
Despite the massive jump in applications, the county is well prepared, Kaczmarek said.
“We bought a new mail sorter. We have other backup equipment coming in the door. We’re ready,” she said Tuesday.
Residents will also have the chance to cast their ballots at county offices or polling places.
“It’s very exciting to see so many people registering to vote, applying to vote and exercising that precious right,” the clerk said.
