EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Peregrine falcons are back at the Evanston Public Library. They have nested and the female has laid eggs.

Although this is the 15th consecutive year that the falcons have nested atop the library’s pillars, a spokesperson said it was still a surprise, given that cold weather has hung on.

This year’s adult birds do not have any leg bands on them and they’ve chosen a different pillar, so there’s no way to know if they have a history with the building.

A previous falcon at the library, dubbed “Ford Falcon,” was banded and has shown up at Chicago’s Montrose Harbor.

Three eggs have been laid at the Evanston site. The birds should hatch in early May.
