CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Fraternal Order of Police President Kevin Graham told the Sun-Times Mayor Lightfoot—in his words— was “jumping the gun” in firing Police Supt. Eddie Johnson and failing to afford him due process.

But Mayor Lightfoot on Thursday said Graham is dead wrong about that. She says, like all department heads, the superintendent serves at the pleasure of the mayor. She says she decided a change was needed, and she made one.Union leader Graham says he suspects Lightfoot made the abrupt change to pave the way for an outsider to run the Chicago Police Department. The mayor responded, “That’s silly. That’s not what this is about.”

The FOP Lodge 7 was no fan of Johnson. It announced a “no confidence” vote in the then-superintendent as he snubbed President Trump at a Chicago appearance.
