(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A top ex-official at the Chicago Public Schools has been charged with lying to the FBI.
The former chief of staff to Schools CEO Janice Jackson, Pedro Soto, is accused of lying to the FBI about whether he had given inside information to a lobbyist for a company that wanted a $1 billion private custodial contract.
The federal government says Soto told the FBI, “I don’t think I gave him anything.”
He is reportedly expected to plead guilty.
Jackson said in a letter to CPS employees: “Even though there is no suggestion that Mr. Soto’s actions influenced the contract award in question, this is a deeply disappointing matter that I take incredibly seriously.”
She said she has accepted Soto’s resignation.
