Kim Foxx Acceptance Primary
Kim Foxx talks on primary night (WBBM Newsradio)

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Incumbent Cook County State's Attorney Kimberly Foxx held off a trio of challengers Tuesday who had hoped to topple her in the Democratic primary.

Foxx had 47 % of the vote with more than 75 percent of precincts reporting. Trailing closest was opponent Bill Conway, at 33%, who late Tuesday conceded the race; Donna More, 14%, and former Chicago alderman Bob Fioretti, 5%.

All had hoped to capitalize on the controversy that dogged Foxx after her office dropped felony charges last year against "Empire" co-star Jussie Smollett, who Chicago police say faked a hate crime against himself for publicity. A special prosecutor re-filed the charges against the actor.

Foxx is expected to face Republican challenger Patrick O'Brien in November.
