CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx takes aim at her critics and criticizes herself as she announces her re-election bid.
WBBM's Jim Gudas reports.
Foxx announced her re-election bid in a video, in which she acknowledged she's faced a lot of criticism, including for the way her office abruptly dropped felony charges against "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett.
"Truth is, I didn't handle it well. I own that," Foxx said.
A special prosecutor is investigating Foxx's decision. Chicago police accused Smollett of falsely reporting a hate attack against him last January as a way to get attention.
I ran for Cook County State's Attorney four years ago because we needed to change criminal justice in our county. Today, I'm officially announcing that I'm running for re-election. We've gotten a lot done, and we can't go back now. pic.twitter.com/0ECV7BRJGH
