GLEN ELLYN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- With pools and water parks closed due to coronavirus concerns, parents are left with few options to keep their kids cool this summer.
The Glen Ellyn Park District opened its splash park as part of phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan, allowing 50 people in at a time and disinfecting the park every two hours.
"We're far apart, the workers were wearing masks when we arrived, we also were. They have things spread out in terms of seating so you're not too close and you can kind of move things around. For the most part, there's a nice breeze, it's so open because it's all outside so I felt totally safe," said Lauren Dirske.
“My wife made the reservation about a day or two ahead of time and from what I’m told, it sold out pretty fast so I was very happy that we were able to get in one of the reservations," said Vincent DiSilvestro.
While extreme heat and the coronavirus pose a health risk, parents say it’s worth giving their kids a somewhat normal summer.
“I just feel like as a mom, you’re totally aware of your child, and if they’re sick, you’re going to keep them home. You’re going to stay home. If not, they’re healthy, they’re playing, they’re laughing, I mean this is what we need to start doing," said Amy Ahlenius.
