CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The annual Chicagoland Emergency Vehicle Lights and Sirens Procession made its way through Aurora and North Aurora Friday evening.

Hundreds of people turned out at the start of the parade course at Route 31 near Airport Road in North Aurora to see a long line of new and old police cars, fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles begin their 11-mile trek to Aurora's Transportation Center. People were then allowed to see the emergency vehicles parked at the Transportation Center for a couple of hours after the parade.

The only thing that Andrea Graunke of Oswego loves more than watching the colorful and loud procession is watching her children take it in.

"My kids are 5 and 3 and they enjoy every minute of it. They both want to be a fireman and a policeman when they grow up, so it's right up their alley," Graunke said.

More so than usual, this year's parade was a must see event for emergency vehicle fans.

Normally the emergency vehicles would gather at the Chicagoland Emergency Vehicle Show in Oswego, which was held on the day after the parade.

This year's show had to be cancelled after its organizer decided to step down due to other obligations.

The show's web site stated it hoped the show will return next year, but the web site says for now the future of the show remains uncertain.
