CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Leading Illinois Democrats believe younger voters are energized to take part in the elections this fall, despite COVID-19 and efforts by some to restrict or slow voting.
In a conference call with reporters, Congressman Danny Davis of Chicago and other Democratic Party members were trying to show as much excitement as they could with participants on screens.
And he said there is excitement among young voters who may have felt alienated by politics before.
"Everything that I'm hearing, everything that I'm reading — I'm hearing that young people are prepared to vote more in this election than ever before in the history of the United States," Davis said.
Another good sign is that many young people have signed up to be election judges, Cook County Clerk Karen Yarbrough said.
All agree it's going to take work to make sure everyone votes, either in person or by mail.
On Thursday, former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to accept his party's nomination for president. The Democratic nominating convention is being held virtually this year.
