Illinois Has 1,893 New COVID-19 Cases, 6 Deaths

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois logged Sunday 1,893 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, including six additional confirmed deaths, a dip in reported cases and deaths from the previous day, according to state health officials. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,356 cases and 17 deaths on Saturday. 

Five of the recent victims lived in Cook County and include a woman and man both in their 40s, a woman in her 50s, a man in his 80s and a man in his 90s, according to IDPH. The sixth victim is a man in his 60s who lived in Iroquois County in the northeastern part of the state.

Since the pandemic's start, Illinois has had 220,178 total cases, including 7,880 deaths, in 102 counties, IDPH stated. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. 

Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 54,351 specimens for a total of 3,704,036, according to IDPH.  The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total tests from August 16 – August 22 is 4.2%.  As of last night, 1,449 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 339 patients were in the ICU and 117 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
