CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Illinois State Police will be out in force from now through the end of Thanksgiving weekend to increase safety and be on the lookout for drunk drivers, speeders and the like.

Illinois State Trooper Mindy Carroll said extra patrols and roadside safety checks will take place from now through Dec. 2 along expressways and tollways.

Carroll said troopers will be looking for speeders, drunk drivers, people holding their cell phones while driving, people who aren't buckled up and other traffic violations.

"We will be out there increasing our patrols (and) working to make the roadways safer for those motorists who are obeying the law," Caroll said.

She added many local police departments also plan increased patrols during the holiday season.
