CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago’s new police superintendent is addressing rumors about his future, following the most violent weekend of the year.
David Brown was confirmed as the city’s top cop only a couple of months ago, in the middle of a pandemic. More recently, Chicago has seen a spate of gun violence.
“I am so proud to be associated with the Chicago Police Department, as its superintendent,” Brown, who previously ran the Dallas Police Department, said at a Thursday appearance.
“I am dedicated. I’m not going anywhere.”
Mayor Lightfoot has said police need to do a better job of tamping down violence. Over the past Father’s Day weekend, more than 100 people were shot, 14 fatally, including four young people.
Brown, like his predecessors, blames guns, gangs and drugs and says the court system is not holding dangerous offenders.
