CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Mayor-Elect Lori Lightfoot is meeting with top public safety officials to talk about keeping Chicago safe over the Memorial Day weekend -- and beyond.Lightfoot was expected to sit down with Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart and others.

A spokeswoman for Lightfoot confirms that the meeting with the leadership was called to discuss public safety for the upcoming holiday weekend and the summer.

This isn’t the first meeting for Lightfoot and Johnson. They met soon after the elections, and she indicated he would keep his job, at least for now.

She previously told reporters she was laying out some guidelines she wants Johnson and CPD to meet.

Johnson’s future in that job likely rides on how things go in the coming months.
